DR Congo | Communiqué from the In Transformation Initiative and Kofi Annan Foundation
Pretoria, 17.11.2023. The In Transformation Initiative (ITI) and the Kofi Annan Foundation facilitated a five-day dialogue, from 13 to 17 November 2023, in Pretoria, South Africa, of the representatives of five candidates for the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), namely Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Augustin Matata Ponyo, Denis Mukwege and Delly Sesanga (in alphabetical order).
The dialogue was organized at the invitation of civil society players with a view to forming a coalition to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, and possibly agreeing to put forward a common candidate for the presidential election scheduled for 20 December.
In Pretoria, the candidates’ representatives produced framework documents for this opposition coalition, identifying areas of convergence in terms of vision, values and programme.
The delegates also considered the various possible election scenarios and devised appropriate strategies in response. Finally, they defined the criteria for identifying the ideal common candidate and the procedures for his designation.
The documents will be handed over to their principals in the DRC for deliberation on the next steps.

La In Transformation Initiative (ITI) et la Fondation Kofi Annan ont facilité un dialogue de cinq jours, du 13 au 17 novembre 2023, à Pretoria, en Afrique du Sud, entre les représentants de cinq candidats à la présidence de la République démocratique du Congo (RDC), à savoir Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Augustin Matata Ponyo, Denis Mukwege et Delly Sesanga (en ordre alphabétique).
Le dialogue a été organisé à l’invitation d’acteurs de la société civile en vue de former une coalition qui veillera à l’intégrité du processus électoral et portera éventuellement un candidat commun à l’élection présidentielle prévue le 20 décembre.
À Prétoria, les représentants des candidats ont produit des documents-cadre pour cette coalition de l’opposition dégageant les convergences en matière de vision, de valeurs, et de programme.
Les délégués ont également réfléchi aux différents scénarii électoraux possibles et y ont apporté des stratégies appropriées. Enfin, ils ont défini les critères permettant d’identifier le candidat commun idéal et les modalités de sa désignation.
Les documents seront remis à leurs mandants en RDC pour délibération sur les prochaines étapes.
