Summary of Proceedings of the second meeting of the West Africa Commission on Drugs

The second meeting of the West Africa Commission on Drugs was held in Accra, Ghana, from April 29-30, 2013.
Over the course of the two days, Commission members discussed various regional and international plans to tackle the probelm of drug trafficking and increased consumption in West Africa, links between drug trafficking and money laundering, weaknesses in judicial frameworks and institutions of law throughout the region, and the respective benefits and drawbacks to the punitive vs rehabilitative or reintegrative approaches to drug users. Commissioners also reflected on the country visits to Senegal and Ghana, and reviewed a draft outline of the Commission’s final report.
