Summary of Proceedings of the Inaugural Meeting of the West Africa Commission on Drugs

On January 31st, the West Africa Commission on Drugs held its inaugural meeting at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, Ghana. Commission members and individual experts met to discuss the implications for the region of increased trafficking of illicit substances, including the threat it poses to national and regional security, and institutions of governance, and the growing consumption and local production of illicit drugs.

The meeting was convened by Mr. Kofi Annan and opened by the Vice-President of Ghana, Mr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur. Pictures of the launch, and a report of media coverage of the event are available on the website of the Commission: www.wacommissionondrugs.org
