STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF THE JOINT SPECIAL ENVOY OF THE UNITED NATIONS AND THE LEAGUE OF ARAB STATES ON THE SYRIAN CRISIS
Geneva, 5 March 2012

Mr. Kofi Annan, the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian crisis, will visit the region from 7 March 2012.   He will begin his mission by meeting with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States in Cairo. He will visit Damascus on 10 March, followed by visits to other countries in the region.

The purpose of his first visit is to seek an urgent end to all violence and human rights violations, and to initiate the effort to promote a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.

M. Kofi Annan, l’envoyé spécial conjoint de l’Organisation des Nations Unies et de la Ligue des États arabes pour la crise syrienne, se rendra dans la région à partir du 7 Mars 2012. Il commencera sa visite par une rencontre avec le Secrétaire général de la Ligue des États arabes au Caire. Il se rendra à Damas le 10 Mars, puis dans d’autres pays de la région.

Le but de cette première visite est de chercher à mettre fin d’urgence à toutes les violences et violations des droits de l’homme, et de lancer les efforts pour promouvoir une solution pacifique à la crise syrienne.
