Throughout 2025, the Kofi Annan Foundation has continued to act as a bridge between generations, sectors and regions — nurturing youth leadership, supporting democratic resilience, and advocating for more inclusive and effective multilateral cooperation.

Moments of profound uncertainty test not only our institutions, but our values. In 2025, those tests have multiplied. International relations are increasingly marked by confrontation rather than cooperation.

Conflicts persist and spread, while climate change and economic hardship deepen the vulnerability of millions, especially those already living at the margins. At the same time, we see a worrying erosion of respect for democracy, the rule of law, and international norms. Funding for international cooperation has all but dried up.

Yet, despite the gravity of today’s challenges, 2025 has also been a year of real opportunity.

Kofi Annan’s values and legacy will help us weather the storm. He once said, “To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there.” Today, even as prevailing winds push us towards confrontation, self-interest and isolation, we choose to stand for solidarity, cooperation and dialogue.
