About the Accountability Hubs Project

WYDE Accountability Hubs is a programme that supports young leaders to strengthen democratic accountability and civic participation in their communities.

Between 2024 and 2026, the initiative brought together emerging changemakers from across Sub-Saharan Africa and supported them in designing and implementing locally driven projects that promote transparency, citizen engagement, and accountable governance.

Programme Activities

Participants received training, mentorship, and seed funding to turn their ideas into practical initiatives that respond to real challenges in their communities.

Through the programme, young leaders participated in a series of activities designed to build both skills and networks:

  • Capacity-building workshops and online training on democratic accountability, civic engagement, and project design
  • Mentorship and peer exchange with fellow participants and experts in governance and democracy
  • A week-long in-person learning module focused on collaboration, leadership, and practical tools for implementing projects
  • Seed grants to support the implementation of youth-led initiatives in their communities.

The programme was organised into two cohorts, each comprising 20 young leaders from across the region, with equal participation from Anglophone and Francophone countries.

Together, participants have implemented projects that address a wide range of accountability challenges — from strengthening community monitoring to encouraging citizen participation in local decision-making.

Stories of Impact

The Stories of Impact featured on this platform capture the experiences of all participating young leaders.

Each story is based on interviews with the participants and insights from their project documentation. They provide a closer look at:

  • The issues young leaders are addressing
  • The solutions they designed
  • The impact their initiatives are creating in their communities
  • The lessons they learned along the way.

By sharing these stories, we aim to highlight the role young people play in strengthening democratic accountability and inspire others working toward similar goals.
