“I count myself privileged to have worked with Senator Edward Kennedy over many years, to have benefited from his advice and to have enjoyed his friendship.
With his passing, America and the world have lost a towering political figure and a great human being.
Whether fighting for peace in Northern Ireland or healthcare reform in the United States, Senator Kennedy was passionate and persistent.
He never lost his unquenchable thirst for progress or his dedication to the liberal cause.
After nearly half a century of service in Congress, Ted thoroughly deserved his nickname of “the Lion of the Senate”.
But he was a lion who, throughout his life, battled to protect the humble and weak.
Like all lucky enough to know him and many more who did not, I will miss him. I wish his family courage and fortitude at this difficult time.”
