Statement by Kofi Annan on Chile Earthquake [English – Español]

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the devastating loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake in Chile.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families, the Chilean people and all those affected, as they begin to recover from this calamity.

I urge those with the capacity to give, to assist the Chilean government in its efforts to provide emergency support and begin long-term reconstruction, particularly of the country’s infrastructure.”

“Estoy impactado y profundamente entristecido por la pérdida de vidas y por los daños causados por el terremoto en Chile.

Mis pensamientos están con las víctimas y sus familias, así como con el pueblo chileno y todas las personas afectadas mientras se recuperan de esta calamidad.

Hago un llamado a todos aquellos con la capacidad de apoyar al gobierno de Chile, a que asistan con los esfuerzos para proveer servicios de emergencia y ayudar con el proceso de reconstrucción de largo plazo, en especial de la infraestructura nacional.”
