Mr. Akodjenou had a long and distinguished career with the United Nations.
From 2014 to 2015, he was Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, at the Assistant Secretary-General level in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and from 2011 to 2014, he was Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, in the United Nations Operations in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI).
He also served for over 25 years with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), including as Regional Coordinator & Special Adviser for South Sudan situation to the High Commissioner, Inspector General, Director of the Division of Operational Services, and Director of Emergency and Security Services.
Mr. Akodjenou holds a PhD in Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, a Postgraduate diploma in International Relations from the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon and Bachelors in History from the University of Benin.
