Corinne Momal-Vanian named Executive Director

Geneva – 25 March 2019 – The Kofi Annan Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Corinne Momal-Vanian as its new Executive Director. Ms Momal-Vanian will succeed Mr Alan Doss who is stepping down from his position as President after more than eight years of service to the Foundation.

Ms Momal-Vanian is currently the Director of Conference Management at the United Nations (UN) Offices in Geneva, having previously worked in a variety of senior positions around the world for the UN. She will take up the post at the Foundation in June 2020.

In welcoming the new Executive Director, Chair of the Foundation Board Elhadj As Sy said, “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Momal-Vanian. Her notable experience in crisis resolution, international relations and multilateral cooperation gives her a unique and important perspective that will serve the Foundation well.” Mr Sy added; “On behalf of the Board and Staff of the Foundation, I extend our deepest gratitude to Alan Doss for his many years of dedicated service to Kofi Annan and the Foundation. He has made a lasting contribution to advancing the vision and values that Kofi Annan held dear.”

Current President of the Foundation Alan Doss said “It was a great privilege to work with Kofi Annan, which was the opportunity of a lifetime and one for which I am immensely grateful. I warmly thank the Chair, the Board members and the great staff of the Foundation for their support, commitment and enthusiasm. I wish Corinne Momal-Vanian equally good fortune.”

Ms Momal-Vanian said “I am honoured by the opportunity that the Kofi Annan Foundation has extended to me. Having worked with Kofi Annan when he was Secretary-General of the United Nations, I understand what his vision was: a world where every individual counts equally,” she added, “During this time of deep uncertainty and crisis, the work of the Foundation in strengthening the quality of leadership and fostering multilateral cooperation to address global challenges will be incredibly important. I am determined to do my utmost to guide this work and look forward to leading the team.”

More about Corinne Momal-Vanian

Ms Momal-Vanian worked in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General as Special Assistant to Kofi Annan and served in two UN regional economic and social commissions.

Passionate about gender equality, Ms Momal-Vanian chaired the Steering Group of the International Gender Champions from 2016 to 2019 and was a co-organizer of TEDxPlaceDesNations. She was also a member of the Board of the Foundation of the International School of Geneva.

Ms Momal-Vanian holds a master’s degree in business administration from HEC Graduate School of Management, Paris and an advanced degree in international relations from the Institut Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) de Paris. Ms Momal-Vanian is married with two children.
