The Foundation provides policy support based on thematic and country monitoring and analysis, aided by an informal network of national leaders, multilateral organisations, business leaders, international non-government organisations (NGOs), and civil society activists, including women’s groups and faith organisations.
The Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, a partnership of the Kofi Annan Foundation and the office of the State Counsellor of Myanmar, which was chaired by Mr Annan, was an innovative and unique peacebuilding effort. Shortly after the completion of its mandate in August 2017, at the direction of Mr Annan, the Foundation undertook a lessons-learned report project to document the work of the Advisory Commission and capture teachings of use to future generations of policymakers, mediators and peacebuilders – within Myanmar and across the globe.
