In Memory of Kofi Annan

Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August 2018, after a short illness.

Kofi Annan was a global statesman and a deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world. During his distinguished career including leadership of the United Nations and as Founder and Chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation, he was an ardent champion of peace, committed to, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law. The Kofi Annan Foundation remains determined to advance Kofi Annan’s vision for a fairer, more peaceful world.

Kofi Annan Foundation Founder, Kofi Annan, smiling.
  • A world built on three mutually reinforcing pillars: peace and security, sustainable & inclusive development, and human rights & the rule of law.
  • A world that has the needs and the dignity of the individual and their communities at its centre.
  • A world where we are governed democratically and engage in multilateral cooperation to solve pressing issues.
  • A world that upholds the values dear to Kofi Annan: dialogue, tolerance, servant leadership.
  • A world that has developed a deep understanding that there is much more that unites us than there is that divides us.

This was his wish, and this is our mission.
